Moon letter girl

We have arrived home.
The streets seem a little deserted but only by comparison to the usual volume of traffic one expects to find. The neon's are off and everyone is suddenly energy conscious. Buses and trains offer reduced services and many lights are off. We as a responsible nation have to reduce our power consumption. Parts of the country from the Kanto plain all the way north, through the worse affected areas, to the Tsugaru Strait have planned power outages although most of Tokyo is exempt from them and the reviews are changing the times to less time out or none at all.
The official death toll rises to almost 9000 and still so many more are missing. Oh I cry for such loss. The Quake drills taught us all what to do when the Earth shakes but what could they do against the liberation of havoc from beneath the waves.
The predominant fear is of the radiation leaking from the damaged plants. It seems to me as if it is a cry of protest to a mistrusted government that people say they have found radiation levels high in food grown from near the plants. Is it just us? People in Taiwan also claim to have found it unacceptably high.

I despair! Our home is fine and we lost only a few ceiling tiles and plates in the restaurant during the shake.
I really can't do anything and so I want to hide from it. Tokyo is a focal point. From here to the north we have the agony, the uncertainty, the fear, the grief, the prospect of rebuilding from the devastation. From here to the west most everything seems normal.

The moon was unusually bright last night as my life slowly returns back to normal.
Hitomi and I sat and ate and exchanged news. As we stepped outside, the lack of glare from the advertising neon's allow us to see much more clearly the moon in the sky. Strange events may occur when the moon passes close to Earth as it did yesterday on March 19 and was only 221,567 miles away. It's the closest the moon has been to Earth in 19 years. Full moons have been linked to increases in crime, suicides, mental illness, fertility, births and even traffic accidents, but what about this huge close up and personal moon?
We all know the moon creates our tides and the closeness of the moon at this time will most likely give us higher and lower tides.
Some people say that since the human body is composed mainly of water, does it have any affect on us and then they'll tell you all the stories of werewolves, moon madness and strange events that go bump in the night.
Tell me something dear reader, did you ever see the water rise and fall in your glass? Did I suddenly seem to have more vodka in mine as the tide in Tokyo bay rose? Let me assure you that outside of superstitions, the moon's affect on water only happens on large bodies of water such as the sea and large lakes.

We did not go to the Mars on Saturday night. We simply stayed at home and ate downstairs in the restaurant together and then we went to bed early. Perhaps we did a little howling in respect to such a wonderful moon.
