There is a condition that affects writers. I don't just mean established or aspiring authors, but journalists, article writers and script writers, essayists, dramatists and lyricists, novelists and playwrights, poets and speech writers and everyone who has ever sat looking at a blank sheet of paper with pen in hand. You have lots of thoughts and lots of feelings all wanting to escape the confines of your head and wanting to be described on that sheet of paper with as much eloquence as you can summon from that somewhat elusive & creative side. But when you try to get them written down on paper in some semblance of order, in some cohesive stream of understandable regimen, they dry up as ashes on a desert wind. Trying to chase the shadow of an idea you had is as artful as remembering a mediocre dream you had from last month. Working alone can often be like that with you wondering where that next source of inspiration will come from. I think I also have a blog like that!
The dreaded blank or wipe out! Thankfully with work there are so many people doing so many things that the primers for inspiration inundate you and you need to find a new or interesting angle on the selected directions and get your idea dressed up
There have been times when I have felt completely empty and bereft of all creative thought and have blamed a poor mood or I had unresolved issues and as a human being I have brooded over my failures and disappointments and being overwhelmed with such negativity it had robbed me of the will to write never mind find trying to find inspiration.
But in my few years of peeking out of the corner of my soul at this great big world we live in I have learned a few things from observation of emotions and human behavior. One of the things I have learned is that getting stuck in routines is bad for my creativity. Sometimes it would appear that I do so many things aside from work and my family that distraction would be a contender for lack of direction and concentration. Not so!
I have found that opening up to so many things that I love gives me an electric shock like I'm connected somehow to the cosmos and in tune with nature. This is something I never experience with monotony and routine and by staying in after working and just resting. Sure I make time to rest, but it's about going out there to make being alive feel real to my soul and not just some imagined concept. It's about touching the lives of other people and letting them know a part of me in return.
Sometimes, as I look back to my life before I met Hitomi, it seems as if I was dissatisfied with so many things despite all that I had. I was always looking, always reaching for but never touching the desires of my heart. Remembering back to the person I was then it seems that even those desires were somehow distorted. They were things that I only thought that I wanted and thought that I needed.
What I need in my life is not necessarily what you need in yours so I can't sit here and tell you all the answers to one of life's little mysteries, you'll need to find out and fill your lives slowly as you learn to touch life with more than just imagination and hope.
But I can tell you this. So many of us are searching and many of us don't even know what we are searching for. We entertain vague notions that we will know what it is when we find it.Some ideas we may run to and some we may run from. The rules of the game of life are slightly different for each of us, but there are generalities and there are guidelines. To find the things you want you have to be an explorer. Go out and allow the experiences of life to touch you. Reach out and touch them. Your tactile senses will eventually tell you what you need for your happiness and your fulfillment.
I think I have found my needs for now.
But my window is continually open for new experiences of life to touch me.
Love will keep us strong.
